Give your teen the tools they need to become a safe, confident driver—with a program that fits your family’s lifestyle. Our Parent-Taught Driver Education (PTDE) program offers the best of both worlds: a flexible online course your teen can complete at their own pace and optional behind-the-wheel (BTW) training that meets Texas DPS requirements.

✔️ Fully online classroom option – Purchase the course by itself and guide your teen through the lessons on your schedule, from any device, anytime.
✔️ Hybrid package available – Bundle the online course with our state-required behind-the-wheel training to check off everything your teen needs—all in one place.
✔️ Flexible learning – Whether you want to teach the in-car portion yourself or have us handle it, we’ve got a plan that works for you.

Steps to Get a Learner’s Permit & License in Texas (Ages 14–17)
Purchase the Parent-Taught Driver Ed Course (PTDE-964 certificate included)
Request the Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Program Guide from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
Complete the first 6 hours of the course – This allows your teen to take the permit test online (if included) or at the DPS office.
Pass your DPS Permit Test – (Included)
Visit your local DPS with required documents and get the learner’s permit
Complete the remaining online coursework and behind-the-wheel training (44 hours total)
14 hours with parent/instructor (7 instructional + 7 observation)
30 hours of additional practice (10 at night)

Begin your Behind-the-Wheel Instruction with Your Designated Instructor
Before beginning a Parent Taught Driving Course, the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR), requires that the student’s “Designated Parent-Instructor” first complete the Parent-Taught Driver Education Instructor Designation Services Request and purchase the Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Program Guide. TDLR charges a separate fee, for the PTDE Program Guide, that is not included in our course fee.
